Editorial Style Guide and Brand Guidelines

Typography

The Northeastern logo features the font Friz Quadrata, and is only used outside of the logo on pre-approved materials.

In addition, Northeastern uses two other typefaces for marketing materials: Calibri and Garamond. For consistency, it’s important to use these typefaces for all Northeastern marketing and communication efforts. There may be rare occasions to stray, such as a promotional event.

Typography plays an important role in our brand. When our typefaces are paired together, they have a strong visual and verbal presence. Themed stylistic techniques, used judiciously, will help create memorable, visually impactful pieces that connect with our audience.

NOTE: When producing special print items, it is against the CCCS System’s IT policy to randomly download fonts to state-owned computers. Fonts should be APPROVED through the IT department before they are downloaded on state equipment and licenses must be obtained and paid for. The Northeastern Document Center needs to have access to these font files as well, for use on any job being done for official Northeastern purposes, so an appropriate number of licenses should be purchased to allow for installation in these other areas. There is a wide array of fonts available, already installed on the equipment and users are encouraged to utilize the fonts in this selection.
