Purpose

“The Colorado Community College System is committed to facilitating access to its Colleges’ instruction, communication, and businesses for the broadest possible audience. CCCS strives to employ principles of Universal Design and the use of the World Wide Web Consortium’s WCAG 2.0 standards in the design, development, implementation, and enhancement, of all web-based information and services” (SP3-125g).

Scope

“This procedure applies to all web-based information and services which includes, but is not limited to, web sites, instructional materials, and online services that are developed, hosted or maintained by the community colleges and all entities within the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).  Colleges must ensure web-based information for use by faculty, staff, students, prospective students and the public is accessible. This procedure does not apply to unauthorized web pages published by students or employees, which are not used to conduct college business or instructional activities” (SP3-125b).

All faculty and staff play an important role in Northeastern's success to ensure the goals of Web Accessibility (SP3-125g) are met in a timely manner. Each department contributes by implementing web accessibility best practices or supporting other departments as they train, assess, remediate and create accessible web content.  Your role, as a new employee at Northeastern, is to make yourself aware of accessibility needs and to complete the training provided within the Northeastern Desire2Learn Learning Management System. Human Resources will contact Academic Technology once you have completed your employment packet.  You will then be provided with information on how to access your Accessibility Training Course Shell in Desire2Learn (D2L).   The Academic Technology Coordinator is the direct contact for your course, as well as any questions regarding usage of D2L.

A few individuals can be granted exemptions, but must do so with their immediate supervisor and Human Resources.

See the Northeastern Accessibility Plan for more detailed information including timelines for implementation and specific requirements for individuals.
