Re-admission Policy and Transfer Policy

Re-admission Policy after one failed attempt

Students who have attempted NJC’s nursing program in the past will be considered re-admits and will follow the readmit procedure below:

1. Students will not be guaranteed admission but will go through the same competitive process for admission as all nursing applicants. All re-entries will be on a space available basis. There is no guarantee that a re-entry may occur.
   1. Students who have successfully completed NUR courses at NJC in a past admission will need to show continued competency by completing a Kaplan exam in the specific course content by scoring in the 65^th percentile. If this score is not obtained, then the course will need to be repeated.

• Note if the student has a LPN credential the first year course work is automatically accepted and Kaplan exams for 1^st year course work is not needed. 

2. All students who want to re-enter the nursing program must agree to the following: 
   1. Successful completion of an essay that addresses the following objectives:
      1.  Explain why the last attempt in nursing school was not successful. 
      2. Discuss why readmission to the nursing program should be granted.
      3.  Provide explanation of how success will be achieved this nursing school admission.
         1. Applicant should request a rubric for essay at time of preparing application.  
3. Participation in a Student Success Plan for the duration of the nursing program. This will allow for extra support while in the nursing program and the student must commit to the following:
   1. Schedule and meet with the Life Skills Coach weekly to develop and maintain an academic plan.
   2. Attend weekly study group
   3. Attend the Nursing Seminar each week if re-entering the first semester
   4. Attend test remediation for all enrolled courses
4. Successfully complete NUR 1076 if re-entering the first year of the program. NUR 1076 consists of:
   1. Basic nursing skills check off
   2. Dosage calculation exam within 3 attempts or less
   3. Clinical orientation and prep to include care planning, charting, and clinical paperwork.
   4. Clinical- 2 weeks

The student will receive a study packet of the specific skills to be performed and a dosage calculation worksheet. The student may notify the director to schedule time in the lab to practice prior to the check off.

Re-admission Policy after two failed attempts

If a student is unsuccessful the 2nd admission a remediation plan must be established with the director and the student. The student must sit out for the next academic year to work on the remediation plan. A 3rd admission may be granted, and the student will need to start from the beginning and repeat the program in its entirety. 

Transfer Policy

Individual NUR courses maybe transferred to NJC if the course was taken within 3 years and the student proves competency by completing a Kaplan integrated test in the content area and scores at the 65^th percentile. If a student does not score in the 65^th percentile the course will not be transferred and the student will be required to take the course at NJC.
