LPNs who desire to further their education can enter the second year of the ADN program after completing NUR 2002 Transition from LPN to ADN (3 credits) course. After successful completion of the 2nd year these students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN (nursing state board exam) to become a Registered Nurse (RN). To be accepted to the second year of the ADN program the following needs to be completed:
- ENG 1021 English Composition I
- HPR 1010 Dietary Nutrition or HWE 1050 Human Nutrition
- BIO 2101 Anatomy & Physiology I
- BIO 2102 Anatomy & Physiology II
- PSY 2440 Human Growth & Development
- BIO 2116 Pathophysiology
- MAT 1120 Math for Clinical Calculations
- 3 credit social science elective
- All of these prerequisites must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for all prerequisites listed above
- All BIO prefixes and/or science courses are valid for 7 years from the time of completion to the start of the Nursing Program.
The following must be completed for the student to be accepted into the program and guaranteed a place in the second year of the ADN program:
- Placement survey or Accuplacer or SAT/ACT scores or comparable course work to show Math, Reading and English are at college level.
- A Kaplan Admission Test score.
- A GPA of 2.5 on all prerequisites is required, and a grade of “C” or better for each prerequisite course.
- LPN program graduate, submit licensure in good standing.
- LPN graduation of 3-9 years prior, documentation of 1,000 hours of work experience as a LPN ~ Or ~
- Successful completion of a refresher course or the equivalent thereof (nursing course work as specified by the accepting institution).
LPN graduation of 10 plus years prior needs to meet the criteria for 3 years prior and testing of competency is required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check (Not to be done any earlier than 90 days of start date into the program)
- Satisfactory Health statement
- Updated Immunization/Titers
- Negative drug screen
- Current Professional CPR Certificate that is valid for the entire length of the program
- Successful completion of a communication assessment
