Honors Program

Honors Inquiry

About the Program 

  • Honors students will explore their chosen degree track through upper-level course work. This may include internships, marketing opportunities for their area of study, event planning among other opportunities that arise.
  • Honors students will have the opportunity to develop communication and presentation skills by working booths at registration days, participating in the Honors Symposium and other networking opportunities on and off campus.
  • Honors students will get a chance to explore different leadership styles via class content and hands on experience.
  • Honors students will also complete service to the campus and the community in a variety of ways.

Criteria 

  • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Applicant must complete the interview process, either in person, via phone or web.
  • Applicants will be chosen based on the above criteria.

Expectations 

  • Honors students are expected to attend a one-hour seminar once a week. There will be additional time spent meeting outside of seminar times for events and trainings.
  • Honors students will be expected to volunteer 10-15 hours per semester.
  • Honors students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Honors students are expected to exhibit open-mindedness, self-reliance, personal responsibility, respect and integrity at all times.
  • Honors students are expected to adhere to NJC’s Student Code of Conduct.

Awards 

  • Honors students will receive a $250 scholarship per semester.
  • Honors students will be given priority housing assignments.
  • Honors students will receive Honors cords for commencement at the end of their sophomore year and will be recognized during the commencement ceremony in May.

Honors students will receive recognition during a yearly Honors dinner.
