About Honors

Purpose

NJC Honors Program is designed to offer highly motivated and talented students’ opportunities to more fully develop their potential by challenging them to assume more control of their intellectual development, allowing opportunities for cross-curricular learning and providing more in-depth experience with issues and topics of global and societal importance.  Developing crucial critical thinking skills along the way.  Students will actively engage in intellectual discovery and in finding their personal paths to achievement, in a caring environment that encourages learning and growth.  Students will be inspired to learn more and think critically.  Students will achieve more because we expect more.

Honors courses tend to be richer, more engaging, more stimulating, and more interactive.  Classes are taught from an interactive perspective.  Faculty will engage the students in the topics and ideas through discussion.  They will get to know the students and the students’ abilities and will provide the best learning environment.  The coursework promotes collaborative work, creativity, and interdisciplinary studies that will culminate in an Honors Capstone project.

Some of the benefits or advantages of being a member of the NJC Honors Program are:

  • Honors students are more likely to qualify for academic and merit-based scholarships.
  • Completing the Honors Program will help students transfer to 4-year universities.
  • Students will probably enjoy being in classes with other highly motivated students.
  • Partake in extracurricular art and cultural experiences.
  • Recognition of your academic achievement, which can assist the students in future educational and professional undertakings.
  • In general, employers look favorably on potential employees who have completed honors programs.  It indicates that they are dedicated, responsible, and better prepared than most other job candidates.

NJC Honors Program vision is to support students as they grow in their passion for academics, leadership, and community service.

The teachers make it feel less like a school and more like a group of friends hanging out, while still learning.

Great things can happen to you when you attend Northeastern. Opportunities are plentiful and you have an advantage over other candidates because of the foundation and ability to quickly learn and adjust as new things.

I choose NJC for its affordability and its rather informal education style. Because it is a small college you have more one on one opportunities with your instructors.
