Specific identification number assigned to all students and employees, used for logging into secure systems. See student ID.

school districts
Spell out the full name on first reference (i.e., RE-1 Valley School District). When referring to more than one school district, use lowercase when spelling out school district (i.e., northern Colorado school districts).
section
A distinct class of students taking the same course (i.e., She taught three sections of English Composition).
semester credit hours
See contact hours, credit hour.
semester designations
Do not capitalize (e.g., fall semester, spring semester, and summer semester).
service area
The area in which Northeastern is designated by the CCCS to offer programs and services.
session
Instructional periods during a semester that mark the beginning and end of a class (i.e., 12-week session).
shared governance
Governance system by which Northeastern solicits input and collaboration from faculty, staff, and students.
spacing
Use a single space after a period and any other punctuation.
State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE)
The 11-member board that governs the CCCS.
state names
Use the following to abbreviate the names of states, per AP Style. Note that eight states are missing from this list; Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Texas and Utah are never abbreviated. Note the postal abbreviations are included only for reference.
