Applying for Aid Checklist

After you have applied for admission, make sure you have completed the following steps.

Apply for FAFSA

  1. Apply after October 1st.
  2. Northeastern has a priority deadline date of March 1st to be eligible for certain grants and work study monies.
  3. Parents and Students need to create an FSI ID at the Student Aid website
  4. Apply for the FAFSA on online at the FAFSA website
  5. In approximately four to six weeks or less the student will receive a SAR (Student Aid Report) sent to their e-mail address or one mailed to their permanent address.
  6. Northeastern will send the student a letter requesting additional information if the student is selected for verification.  This request might include documents such as student and parent federal tax returns and a Verification Worksheet. To view and print any requested documents, please visit our Financial Aid Documents page.
  7. Once the Financial Aid Office has received all the correct information needed, the student will receive an Award Letter sometime after March 1st. This award letter is for the student to keep as a record unless he or she is declining a portion or the entire award. 
  8. Please feel free to call the Financial Aid Office if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment for assistance on completing the FAFSA.

Northeastern Scholarships

  1. Priority deadline date for all Northeastern scholarship applications is March 1st.
  2. General scholarship application is for other available scholarships through the Northeastern Foundation, Local Community, etc and selections are made by the Northeastern Scholarship Committee. 
  3. Agriculture and Technical application is available for scholarships in those areas and selections are made by the Northeastern Scholarship Committee. 
  4. Make sure you are investigating other sources for scholarships through your high school counselor, local community and online.
  5. Notification of scholarship awards are from May and throughout the summer.

Important Reminders

  1. The FAFSA needs to be completed to be eligible for Pell Grants, Federal/Colorado Grants, Federal/State Work-Study (both need based and no-need), Student Loans (both subsidized and unsubsidized) and Parent Plus Loans. 
  2. Keep copies of everything, including the scholarship applications and the FAFSA. 
  3. If the aid you are awarded from completing the FAFSA does not cover your bill, you may be eligible for additional loans. Call the Financial Aid Office for more information.
