The coaching duo amassed 545 victories and a national tournament appearance before Coach Roumph took over the reins of the program in 1981. Coach Roumph coached the Plainsmen until he retired in 2002.
Many players wore the Plainsmen jersey under Coach Roumph. All of his players knew what kind of coach he was and were grateful for the opportunity to play for him. He knew that giving a play respect meant that you "tell it like it is." That motto helped his players become decorated student-athletes.
The greatest gauge of his success was not the wins and losses, but the number of people he touched. He was a fixture and legend at NJC even after his retirement and filled the hearts of many with wisdom, guidance and kindness.
