Continuing Education

Continuing Education at Northeastern Junior College provides the opportunity for the community to enhance their personal interests, academic goals, and professional skills through a variety of non-credit courses.

Courses cover a variety of topics such as basic computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite, basic methods in art, personal enrichment, and health and fitness. Within Community Education various continuing education courses will be offered to provide an opportunity for local industries and community members to access the professional development required for re-certification.

This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants and meets OSHA/workplace requirements. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

The Basic Life Support (BLS) course gives healthcare providers and public safety professionals the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, child, and infant patients. Consistent with AHA Guidelines for CPR/ECC, BLS is the foundational CPR/AED program typically required for healthcare providers and public safety professionals, our certification is through the American Red Cross. Through the use of lectures, skills demonstration, practice, and case-based emergency response scenarios with a focus on team-based response, BLS builds the key critical thinking, problem-solving, and team dynamic skills that are needed to drive better patient outcomes. Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive a 2-year Basic Life Support digital certificate with anytime, anywhere access to the certificate and training history.

*If you need the certification for employment purposes and your employer requires an American Heart Association (AHA) certificate this course is only American Red Cross -please check your employer's requirements.

The American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers program is designed to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. The technical content within this CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Handbook is consistent with the most current science and treatment recommendations from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR), the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, and the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council (SAC), a panel of nationally recognized experts in fields that include emergency medicine, emergency medical services (EMS), nursing, occupational health, sports medicine, school and public health, aquatics, emergency preparedness and disaster mobilization.
