What to Bring

Your college dorm room will be your home away from home! Start by knowing what you can and cannot bring and begin preparing for your college move-in day beforehand in order to reduce stress and make your move-in experience as easy as possible.

Living on campus and being away from home can be an exciting, challenging, and nerve-wracking experience, especially for first-time students. Sharing a room with someone new, gaining more independence, and making new friends are just some of the things you can look forward to while living in the dorms, but these can also be stressful.

Being prepared before moving into your dorm will help ease some of the stress that you and your family will be feeling during the move-in process. Below are some suggestions on what to bring when moving into your college dorm room. It is recommended you communicate with your assigned roommate in order to not have to bring everything yourself and to make sure you do not end up with two of one item.

Some suggestions of what to bring when moving into college:

Bedding - this includes the a bedspread, sheets, extra blankets, pillows and pillow cases, and mattress pad. The mattress size is a Twin XL (39" x 80").
Storage bins
Full-length mirror
Fan
Throw rugs or area rug
Wastebasket and trash liners
Laundry bag/basket, laundry detergent, dryer sheets
Television
Small refrigerator - one per room (4 cu. ft.)
Microwave - one per room (700 watts or less)
Power Strip with surge protection
Extension cord
Ethernet cable
Computer
iPad
Cups, plates, bowls, silverware, tupperware, and napkins
Dish soap
Cleaning supplies and paper towels
Towels, robe, flip flops, or other footwear for the bathroom
Bathroom shower caddy to carry soap, shampoo, brushes, combs, and other items for the communal bathroom
Bicycles are allowed in the halls and can be stored in the dorm room
First Aid Kit
School supplies

Metal tacks, fasteners, screws, or nails are not permitted. You may use a removable mounting putty or command strips, as these products do not usually remove paint or cause damage to walls. Please test the product on one area of your wall before using in multiple areas. You can be held financially responsible for any damages made to your walls.
