Content Types

Northeastern Junior College's Website is built on a Drupal platform.

Drupal is a content management system. Unlike other formats, data is stored for different content types and pulled in through coding on the website. This allows for streamlined maintenance. For example, directory information is stored in the directory content type, it can be tagged to any Organization or Area of Study but can be updated in one location and updates wherever the content is shown.

Content Types

Area of Interest

Areas of interest were developed using the program groupings developed for the college's pathway integration. New Areas of Interest or changes to existing would need to be implemented at the super user level.

The Areas of Interest view does not have any content which can be edited but is navigation for the end user to find the program they want to explore.

Area of Study

This is the program level content type. It can have basic pages attached to it for its own navigation. Additionally Profiles, News, Events, Directory, and Area of Study Option (Degree Requirements) can be attached to the Area of Study. It is tagged to be associated with the appropriate Area of Interest. Any content added to the Area of Study retains the packaging of the Area of Study it is associated with.

Area of Study Option

This is the Degree Requirements. It pulls data from the Course Content Type. If the course is not found by the system, please contact website administration for assistance. *Long-term goal is to have Degree Requirements extract into the Catalog.

Organization

This is the office level content type, such as Admissions, Bookstore, etc. It can also have basic pages associated with it and they will retain the packaging of the organization. Profiles, News, Events, and Directory items can be tagged to Organizations. When creating an organization determine where it is going in the Navigation.

Basic Page

Basic pages are used to create navigation within an Organization or an Area of Study. They have no design of their own and should not be used independently of the Organization or Area of Study.

News

This content type is used for three different types of news, In the News - When the Journal Advocate or other news outlet publishes something about Northeastern, Press Release - when we are putting out our own news, and Stories - when we want to highlight a program, student, employee, etc. It can be promoted to the home page and tagged to any Area of Study or Organization.

Event

Event content types promote activities on campus. This content type can be promoted to the home page, MLC page or Academic Calendar as well as any Organization of Area of Study. Content can be submitted by any website user. Careful consideration will be used when promoting events to the Home Page as long duration events can crowd out any other activity. Academic Calendar promotion should only be used for official academic calendar events.

Directory

Directory information is posted by position number and promoted to the appropriate Organization or Area of Study. Directory content is managed strictly by Human Resources.

Alert

Creates a Red, Yellow or Green bar across the top of the website to alert users of important information, weather events, or other short term information.

Webform

Webform Content Type is used to publish a Webform (structure type) to an Organization or Area of Study. It provides a body field and the ability to select the desired Webform (Structure type) from a generated list. Webforms can be opened and closed from this content type in addition to the Webform (Structure type).

Dorm

Provides a location for Residence Hall information which is connected to the other halls so that students interested in housing can easily browse options.

Location

Currently Main Campus, Applied Technology Campus and Yuma Campus, provides google map information as well as operating hours.

Full Page

Full Pages are coded by the developer and only individuals with the Super Admin role can edit content on full pages.

Course

Course level information is stored by prefix and course number. Data included in the Course content type includes Prefix, Course Number, Course Name, Course Long Description, Credit Hours, GT-indicator. This data set is used for the web schedule (Discontinued Fall 2021) and Degree Requirements. *Long-term goal is to have the long description visible on click or hover on the degree requirements and enable an extraction view for the Catalog.

Profile

This content type can be tagged for either student or alumni profiles. It currently is visible on Area of Study content types and is in progress to be available on Organizations. These content types will randomly pull up to three profiles that are tagged to them upon refresh, therefore showing different profiles each time a page is visited. A larger matrix is displayed on the Get Started page and under any individual profile that is viewed.

Scholarship

Scholarship content is managed by Financial Aid and the Foundation, two views have been created in both areas for scholarship search capabilities.

Student Activity

This content is accessible through the main page to a view that shows clubs, teams and other activities. Clubs use the Organization content type tagged for Student Clubs to display on the clubs page.

Book Page

Used for any content that needs to show an index such as manuals, catalogs and policy.

Page Reference

This content type is used when identical content needs to be displayed in more than one Organization. It allows the content to be edited once and update in all locations.

Instagram Post

This content is pulled in automatically from the Northeastern Instagram account. *Note, Instagram changes its coding frequently and this functionality has been impacted.
