Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and Northeastern Junior College previously announced Rear Admiral (soon to be “President”) Michael White will officially start on Jan. 31, leaving the president position vacant for the month of January. On Friday, CCCS Chancellor Joe Garcia announced his decision to temporarily delegate personnel authority to Steve Smith, Vice President Student Services.

Effective Jan. 1, 2022, until the arrival of President White, Steve Smith will serve as the delegated personnel authority and Interim President for Northeastern Junior College.

“I want to thank Steve for his willingness to take on this important delegation and his assistance in ensuring college business continues without interruption during the period of time in which the president position is vacant. And, of course, I want to again thank President Jay Lee for his years of service to NJC, CCCS, and the broader community of northeastern Colorado. His leadership will be missed. I hope all of you join me in thanking him for his work, and in supporting Steve Smith during the January transition, and Michael White as he begins a new era of leadership at NJC,” stated Chancellor Garcia in an email earlier this week.

Northeastern’s campus will be closed starting Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. through Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, for the holidays.
