Elsie Good Memorial Scholarship

Elsie Minnie Good was a long-time resident of Logan County, and was concerned that many of her friends did not have the financial resources to transfer to four-year college after finishing their studies at Northeastern Junior College.  She resolved to leave a legacy for future students that would help to alleviate that problem.  Her generous gift to the NJC Foundation has provided a means to fund several scholarships each year for Northeastern graduates to continue their education.

This scholarship is open to any Logan County resident with a 3.0 GPA who will graduate from Northeastern and transfer to a four-year college or university within the state of Colorado. The award recognizes the academic standing and accomplishments of talented students from all major divisions of the college, as well as considering financial need.  The attitude of the student toward faculty, fellow students and academic life in general will be given serious consideration by the Scholarship Committee in selection of recipients.

A completed application packet must include the following:

  1. Cover Letter addressing your clubs & activities involved with at NJC, your future goals, and your attitudes about the qualities of education which make it important to you.
  1. Two letters of recommendation: One from a faculty member of Northeastern, and one from a person unrelated to you but who knows you well.  These letters should specifically address what the writer knows about your character, and your accomplishments while attending Northeastern Junior College.
  1. A copy of your Northeastern transcript.
  1. Proof of acceptance to your chosen transfer institution.

All completed application packets are due in the Northeastern Financial Aid Office no later than March 1st, of the year in which you will graduate Northeastern.  The committee will select recipients from review of all application materials.  If necessary, the committee will request a personal interview with candidates.

Recipients will be recognized at the May commencement exercises of Northeastern Junior College.  A $1,500 stipend per year (renewable for the second year) will be declared at the time, to be billed to the NJC Foundation by the transfer institution at the rate of $750 per semester, or $500 per quarter.

Senior institutions should send all scholarship bills to:

NJC Foundation, 100 College Drive, Sterling, CO 80751.
