We are looking for a friendly, outgoing student who loves to read and loves to help people. This is a great opportunity to see hands on how a small business is operated day to day. You will learn the ins and outs of how Indie Bookstores run, and what it takes to succeed in business. You will have interactions with regulars and new customers consistently, and will build local connections in the community through customer service. As a bonus, you will have access to request Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) of books that have yet to be released. You will be asked to write an honest review for any ARC you read. 
The position is via NJC work study, so any rules and regulations regarding pay, hours, etc. will go through Northeastern Junior College. As such, we will accommodate any scheduling needs you require for school or other engagements. 
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Customer Service
  • Sales
  • Taking custom orders
  • Shelving
  • Marketing*
  • Receiving*
  • Networking with local authors*
  • Assisting with events such as*
    • Writing Groups
    • Book Clubs
    • Vendor events
 
 
* These responsibilities are optional, but the experience and knowledge gained is recommended.

To qualify for a work-study position, you must first have a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to determine your eligibility.  You may apply for multiple work-study positions.  Your submitted application will be sent to the position supervisor(s), and it is up to them to contact you for an interview or for hiring.  After being hired, you will be required to sign a financial aid work-study contract, and complete hire forms through our Human Resources office.

Please note that as a new hire work study student, you are required to bring your two original forms of ID and proof of banking to Human Resources before are eligible to begin working. We are unable to accept copies or pictures of the documents. Accepted documents are your passport by itself or a drivers license/student ID paired with a social security card/birth certificate. Proof of banking can be a void check, direct deposit notice from your bank or bank screenshot showing your name and whole account and routing number.
