According to show organizers, just over 1,000 people attended the 2015 Northeastern Junior College Auto Show over the weekend. There were 59 entries on display, including motorcycles, cars and trucks in a variety of years and categories, plus smaller versions on display in the model and die cast categories.
It was the 1932 Cadillac LaSalle shown by Deb and Ray Hardy of Yuma that captured the big prizes this year when it was selected as the 2015 People’s Choice entry as well as also being named Best Display winner. These prizes are determined by votes from the public and the various exhibitors participating in the show.
The President’s Choice 2015 Award, selected by Northeastern President Dr. Jay Lee, went to the light blue Camaro SS Convertible shown by Dennis Vierow, Sterling. The Club’s Choice Award 2015, chosen by members of the NJC Auto Techs Club, went to the 1969 Roadrunner shown by Steve Masters, Sterling.
This year the show offered a new category of die cast entries. The People’s Choice Die Cast Award went to the “Monster Trucks” entry shown by Taylin Ramsier of Sterling. The People’s Choice Model Car Award went to the “Demolition Derby” entry shown by Travis Murphy.
The Top 20 entries for the show, selected from a variety of classes, in no particular order, included: Motorcycle Class: Rawlyn Horton, Holyoke for a Harley Davidson Springer Softtail 1989; Robert Kropp, Sterling with a Triumph Bonneville 1966; and Jesse Scofield, Sterling for his home built custom 2001. Pickup Class: Mike Kerker, Dodge Power Wagon 1955; Jeff and Tammy Heppner, New Raymer Plymouth Pickup 1940; andSteve Masters, Sterling, with his Dodge Little Red Express 1979.
Street Rod 48 & Older Class: Jim Dorland, Eaton with his Dodge Convertible 1934 and Stanley Anderson, Arvada with a Willys Coupe 1941.
Third Generation 80-Up Category: Rick Wagner, Sterling, Chevrolet Corvett 1989; Mitch Plank, Sterling Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 201; and Marvin Stanley, Sterling Ford Shelby Mustang 2014.

Model Cars Age 6-12: Best in Class- a 64 Chevy Impala entered by Jayce Estrada-Sterling; Model Cars Age 13-16 Best in Class, a 67 Ford Mustang entered by James Ward-Fleming; Model Cars 17-Older: Best in Class, a 36 Ford Coupe entered by Mark Walters-Sterling.
The NJC Auto Show has been in existence since 1969. This year’s auto show queen was Katrina Sanchez of Colorado Springs. She was on hand to pass out all the trophies on Sunday afternoon. The NJC Diesel Technology Club held a toy show in an adjacent building on Saturday as well.
