Greg Peterson presents at Beef with a Brief

Northeastern Junior College Collegiate Farm Bureau club, in cooperation with the college’s Associated Student Government, recently hosted YouTube star Greg Peterson of “The Peterson Brothers.” Greg was the guest speaker at the club’s fourth annual “Beef with a Brief” fundraiser with a speech on “Celebrating Diversity in Agriculture.” The night included a silent auction and a beef brisket dinner.

“This is one of a number of important fundraising events we put on each year to support the CFB club,” said Andy Bartlett, Northeastern soil and crop science instructor and advisor to the club. “More than $1,600 was raised at the event with proceeds going to the Collegiate Farm Bureau for the many activities they conduct throughout the school year.”

In just a few weeks the club will be sending eight of its members to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Young Farm and Rancher Leadership Conference. The attending students will hear from motivational speakers, engage in agriculture and leadership workshops, and tour a number of local agricultural businesses, farms, ranches, and other locations.

“As advisor to the NJC Collegiate Farm Bureau, I want to express our gratitude for the generous support of the community,” Bartlett said. “Thanks to all the guests that attended and all of the businesses that donated silent auction items. We are now able to send our members to a conference that will sharpen their leadership skills and prepare them for careers in agriculture.”

The next fundraiser for the club is the annual plant sale on May 8 at the greenhouse on the Northeastern campus. The event, which is scheduled to run from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., is open to all community members.

I was able to learn different aspects of many different specialties such as OB, OR, geriatrics, and mental health. It gave me more of an idea which specialties I liked, and which ones I did not.

The teachers and office workers WANT to help you to achieve your goals. That's also the reason why I actually like to go to classes, because it's important for me to combine fun and learning.

I've taken some hard courses that, at the beginning, I would never have thought I could ever get past. It's awesome how dedicated the professors here are!
