Sophomore Scholarships

Certain scholarships are designated for sophomore students who demonstrate desirable scholastic performance and citizenship during the freshman year. Others, awarded to entering freshmen, are renewable during the sophomore year upon satisfactory performance. Of those which are renewable, some may be reassigned should the original recipient be disqualified or not return to school. Applications for the following scholarships should be made early in spring semester of the student's freshman year.

Fleming Saddle Club
 
One award is made annually to an NJC sophomore planning to major in the field of agriculture.  Prefernce will be given to equine majors, animal science majors, ag business majors (in that order). Applicants should be from Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, or Yuma Counties).  $500 will be awarded for the sophomore year.

Bruce C. & Sharon L. Perryman NJC Emeritus Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to a resident of Colorado or Wyoming, who is a sophomore and enrolled at NJC in the secondary business-teacher education program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Student-athletes, Iraq or Afghanistan war veterans and members of Future Teachers Association will be given preference. The scholarship is for the sophomore year only.

John F. Kerker Memorial Business Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the John Kerker Family and is awarded annually to a sophomore business student. The scholarship will be for $500 based on need, ability to demonstrate leadership skills and scholastic interest. Applicants must include a letter of recommendation and an essay on the topic "Why I Chose the Field of Business." The student must carry a 3.0 GPA. Selection is made by the Business Division and Financial Aid Office.

Bernadine Parr Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1998 in memory of Bernadine Parr, a long time NJC employee. One $500 scholarship will be awarded for an NJC sophomore business student. Preference will be given to Logan County residents and have a 3.3 GPA in their freshman year.

Kent Ewing Memorial Diesel Technology Scholarship

Kent Ewing served as instructor/coordinator of the Ag Diesel/Farm Mechanics Program at Northeastern for twenty years before his retirement. His commitment to educating young people in the field of agricultural business prompted his family to establish this scholarship in his memory. One scholarship per year in the amount of $500 is awarded to an NJC sophomore majoring in Diesel Technology.

Jeffrey Grauberger Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1994 in memory of Jeffrey Grauberger, one $500 scholarship $250/semester for the sophomore year only. Applicants must be Logan County residents carrying a 3.0 grade point average or above majoring in agriculture education. APPLICATION: NJC Sophomore Ag/Tech Scholarship Application
Hilbert Kahl Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1994 in memory of Hilbert Kahl. Qualification for scholarship: Sophomore NJC student majoring in Agricultural Education. Submit a standard sophomore scholarship application available from the Instructional Director's Office in Beede-Hamil Hall.

This scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded for the fall semester of each year. If recipient’s grade point average remains at the 3.5 level or higher, the scholarship will be renewed for an additional $500 during spring semester.  The recipient must be a sophomore, must have 3.5 GPA or higher and must be planning on transferring to a 4-year college or university. The recipient must be majoring in (1) Agriculture Business, (2) Farm and Ranch Management, or (3) Agriculture Economics, with preference given in the order listed.
Gabriel H. Schreiber Memorial Ag Scholarship

This scholarship, provided by the friends and family of Gabriel H. Schreiber, recognizes the contributions made by Schreiber while a student at NJC. Schreiber was an agriculture major and a member of the 1998 NJC Championship Livestock Judging Team. This scholarship is awarded annually to a sophomore student who is majoring in Agriculture. Applicants must include one letter of recommendation from an instructor, professor or advisor and must
provide an essay on his/her future goals in Agriculture and how this scholarship will assist him/her in attaining these goals. The student must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) upon graduation from high school and during his/her freshman year of college. Selection is made by the Ag Scholarship Committee.

Fred E. Sheath Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a continuing sophomore from northeast Colorado (Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Yuma or Washington Counties) who is planning to transfer to a four year college or university and who is majoring in Ag Business or vocational ag education. Student must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA during freshman year.

Keith Propst Memorial Agriculture Scholarship
Established in 2003 by the Propst Family. One award will be made annually to an NJC sophomore planning to major in the field of agriculture. Preference will be given to students planning to transfer to Colorado State University. Qualified applicants must have an associate’s degree with a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA. Application materials must clearly document the student's leadership, integrity, strong moral character, and community involvement with letters of reference and/or other supplementary materials. Previous involvement in 4-H and FFA activities considered positively. Selection is made by the Ag/Tech Scholarship Committee.

NJC Classified Staff Scholarship

One $750 scholarship is awarded to a continuing NJC student and/or relative of an NJC Classified Staff member. Students must be at least a resident of NJC's 5 county service area and a full-time student with a documented financial need and a 3.0 GPA.

Kasey Jo Walker Warner Scholarship
March 1st

The recipient of this $1,000 scholarship must be a freshman or sophomore student at NJC who graduated from a Logan County Colorado or Furnas County Nebraska High School or from Prairie, Pawnee, Briggsdale or Akron High School in Colorado. The recipient must be majoring in Agriculture, Science, or Education. Preference will be given to students with 'cross-over' majors such as Agriculture-Education or Science-Education.
