The transition to college can be daunting and overwhelming. I hope that no matter where you are in the process, the staff in Student Services will assist you with your needs and make the transition a bit easier for you. Maybe you are just starting to look into your college options and have reached out to our Admissions team. Or perhaps you are planning to attend an upcoming Discovery Day or Summer Registration Day. You may already be a student, but have questions about testing, on-campus student housing, financial aid, immunization records, transcripts, or career exploration. Whatever the need, the folks in Student Services are here to answer your questions and support you throughout your educational endeavors. When we ask, “How may we help you,” we mean it! Steve Smith is the Vice President of Student Services at Northeastern Junior College. Steve joined the college in 2000, as Director of Counseling & assessment Services. As Vice President, Steve now supervises the following Student Services departments:
1. Admissions
2. Financial Aid
3. Records
4. Residence Life & Student Activities
5. Student Success Center
    a. Counseling & Advising
    b. Concurrent Enrollment
    c. Testing

Steve is also the Chief Judicial Officer on the NJC Campus, responsible for ensuring fair and consistent investigations and sanctions for all judicial matters. Additionally, Steve chairs the Campus Safety & Security Committee, submits our annual Clery Safety Report, and maintains the crime and fire reports, as required by law.

Steve graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, with a BA in Sociology and an MA in Counselor Education. He moved to Colorado in 1997, working as a public school counselor for a few years before joining Northeastern Junior College. Prior to his career in education, Steve was a law enforcement officer for 13 years in Hillsborough County Florida outside the city limits of Tampa.

Steve's wife, Mary, has taught piano for over 30 years.  She currently teaches part time for NJC.  Steve and Mary have 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters, and a grandson.
