The Athletic Training program at NJC is in its ninth year. NJC is the only two-year college in the state to offer an Associate's Degree in Athletic Training and who has a certified athletic trainer on its full-time staff.
The Athletic Training Program has an emphasis in athletic training but touches on other professions related to Athletic Training including physical and occupational therapy, sports nutrition, and sports psychology, among others. Students learn current techniques and theory to help prepare for successful transfer to a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited four-year school to continue their education in athletic training.
The Athletic Training program attracts students because of its unique balance of academic rigor and hands-on experience. Northeastern Junior College provides the opportunity for its athletic training students to work hands on with one of the eight varsity athletic programs (Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Softball and Volleyball) as freshmen and sophomores. Working with teams at 4 year schools is traditionally reserved for Juniors and Seniors.
In addition to providing educational opportunities for students, the Athletic Training program provides much needed medical care to NJC's many student athletes and visiting teams. The athletic training staff provides medical coverage for most practices and all contests held at NJC.
Heading up this program is Nate Kelley, a certified athletic trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainer's Association – Board of Certification. Nate is entering his fourth year at NJC. To contact Nate you can email him at email@example.com or call him at (970) 521-6674.
