Admissions
Residency and Tuition Classification
The information you provide on your admission application tells us if you are a resident or non-resident of Colorado for tuition purposes. To be a resident, you must have lived in Colorado for 365 days prior to the first day of classes for the term in which you wish to enroll, and you must show that you intend to make Colorado a permanent home. If you are under the age of 23, your parent's or legal guardian's information on the application determine your residency classification. Additionally:
Students under the age of 23, who are independent, must complete and Emancipation Document to have their own address information used for classification.
A member of the armed forces who is on active duty for more than 30 days (during enrollment) whose permanent duty station is in Colorado cannot be charged out-of-state tuition. Even if there is a change in the permanent duty station, as long as the person is continually enrolled they must still be charged in-state tuition. (This also applies to their spouse and/or dependent students.).
For more information, visit the State of Colorado Website or contact NJC's Admissions Office. All petitions for residency must be received by the first day of classes to be considered for the semester.
