Jimmie McCaffree Nursing Scholarship

Jimmie graduated from the West Nebraska Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She preferred doing patient care in a hospital setting.  After World War II, Jimmie began doing private duty nursing for critically ill patients as she could work the 11 pm to 7 am shift and could sleep while her children were in school. These were the days before there were Intensive Care Units. In the 1960's and 1970's Jimmie found her true calling as a public health nurse for the Logan County Health Department.

Jimmie decided to start a scholarship fund as the result of hiring young nurse aids and CNAs to help care for her husband when was ill.  Most of the aids that she hired were struggling financially but had a desire for more nursing education.  Jimmie decided that a scholarship was the only way she could help women like these.
