Northeastern: Brad Samber Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Bradley Samber was born and raised in the Sterling, Colorado community and attended Northeastern Junior College from 2001-2003. While attending NJC, he majored in biology, was a student ambassador, a tutor in the math and science areas, a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, in NJC’s Honors Program and named to the President’s Honor Roll. Faculty at NJC enjoyed his quiet confidence, willingness to help others, and the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled. Brad enjoyed snow skiing/snowboarding, scuba diving, good cinema, the NFL and sports in general. He loved skiing in Colorado and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

After leaving NJC, Brad graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Colorado College. He performed research at the CSU Vet School where he did pre-clinic work conducting LC/MS/MS analyses as they related to cancer studies until 2008. After losing his grandmother to cancer at a very young age, he dedicated himself to protecting others from being taken by this deadly disease.

He loved adventure and traveling, which led him to move to the east coast in 2008. Shortly thereafter, he secured a job as a research chemist within the Analytical Research & Development Department at Boehringer Ingelheim, previously known as Merial Pharmaceuticals. In May of 2018, Brad graduated with a Master’s degree in Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance from Temple University. He procured a position with BAYER Pharmaceuticals as Manager of Regulatory Affairs shortly before his sudden passing at age 36.

The recipient of this scholarship needs to have the endearing qualities that Bradley exemplified, as well as a love for science and life, and a determination to improve the world around him!

This NJC Scholarship is open to students in the Math and Science Department. Freshman entering into their sophomore year at NJC are encouraged to apply. One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded per year to an eligible NJC Sophomore. The sophomore student recipient will receive $500 per semester provided they continue to meet the GPA requirement. The Department Chair of the Math and Science Division and committee members will select the recipient.

Eligibility requirements for this scholarship include:

• Student from within the NJC local 5-County service area
• 3.0 GPA minimum
• Preference will be given to students majoring in the Life or Physical Sciences.
• Student must complete and submit the following with application:
  • Grade report forms, reference check sheets (2), and required essay questions.
