The Jack Petteys Memorial Foundation was established in 1944 by Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Petteys in memory of their son, Jack, a pilot killed in World War II. The original purpose of the Foundation was to provide college scholarships for boys graduating from the Brush, Fort Morgan, and Sterling Senior High Schools. In 1950, the Foundation, to express interest and confidence in Northeastern Junior College, offered Morgan County seniors scholarships to Northeastern Junior College. The number of scholarships was increased to nine in 1962. Eleven are now available each year to graduates in eight counties in Northeastern Colorado. Northeastern Junior College scholarships are now awarded to graduates of Sterling, Yuma, Wray, and Brush High Schools as well as a senior from any high school in Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Yuma, Sedgwick, Washington, Lincoln, and Kit Carson Counties.
