Cameron University senior forward and former Northeastern Junior College  Plainswomen basketball player Sabelle Diata raked in several post season honors to finish her college career.  Diata was recently named to the National College Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division II All-American Team as an honorable mention selection.  Sabelle also received the following post season honors:  Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, LSC Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Conference, and 1st Team All-Region Honors;  Diata finished atop the Aggies stat lines in points, points per game, rebounds, and blocked shots.  She also finished in the top 20 in the NCAA for double doubles with 13 this season.
Originally from Dakar Senegal, Africa, Diata attended NJC from 2008-2010 and was as a major force in the Plainswomen basketball program.  She was a two time All-Region 1st team selection, as well as a 1st Team All-American recipient her sophomore season.  Head Coach Darrel Parker had this to say about Diata, “She was a great player, not only on the floor but off the floor as well.  She helped our program to many wins in her two years at NJC, so I’m not surprised at the success she has had at the Division II level”.
Diata has just signed a professional contract to play for a team in Barcelona, Spain.
