Title III Administration and Key People

judyVice President of Student Services, Judy Giacomini, is the NJC Title III Director. She is responsible for the overall management of the Title III activity. The program coordinators report to her on all aspects of Title III implementation, and she works closely with them to ensure the activity is implemented in accordance with Federal guidelines and the comprehensive development plan.

Judy Giacomini also works closely with the External Evaluator to document progress toward meeting activity objectives.   Annual performance reports are submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, Title III Office.  There is an annual meeting, generally conducted in Washington, D.C., with Title III Representatives, Directors and Evaluators. The workshop focuses on implementation, project changes, reporting tips and general changes to the Title III Grant process.

College administrators are committed to institutionalizing the practices and improvements implemented under the grant, and are considering how to best support these improvements when the grant period ends.

NJC and Title III have continued to work effectively in the third year to strengthen the institution's academic quality, institutional management, and to increase retention. We continue to realize positive results from our established projects. The many faculty and staff continue to be actively involved and enthused about their improving efforts to impact student's lives.

Title III - Strengthening the Institution Project Goals:
--Increase enrollment by better meeting service area needs
--Increase the quality and capacity of science and health instruction
--Student retention
--Increase endowment that can be used for student scholarships

Title III Objective Measures. 5 year goals and actual results. At completion of year 3 grant.
--Increase upduplicated student headcount enrollment by 10%. Progress at +9%
--Increase enrollment of new students taking two or more online/hybrid courses by 150. Progress +516.
--Increase enrollment in health-related majors by 50 students. Progress total of 149, +26.
--Increase student success/completion rate in science lab courses by 50%. Baseline is 77% student success rate. Progress at 82%, +5%.
--Increase utilization of science lab space from 40% in-use to 90% in-use between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Progress at 80% utilization.
--Increase fall to fall first-time student retention by 5%. Progess +7% (65% retention).
--Increase fall to fall part-time degree or certificate seeking student retention by 10%. Progress +8% (34% retention).
--Increase endowment by $311,626 through Title III funding. Title III matching edowment program starts in year four.
