| Printing on the NJC campus will be monitored beginning in September 2002. Printing costs have spiraled in recent years with the addition of new technologies, software, laser and color printers, and the increased use of the World Wide Web for academic and personal research. Printing at NJC has been unlimited based on a personal honor system recognizing that college resources should be used for academic purposes only. Unfortunately, the honor system has not been followed by all students or community patrons. Some students print 1000+ pages a semester - while others print a few pages or do no printing at all. NJC, like many colleges nationwide, is faced with budget cuts and must consider the wisest use of limited resources. The goals of monitoring are to reduce waste and non-academic printing, and encourage students to learn effective printing skills. Resources of both the planet and the college are limited. Computer skills that enable efficient printing are quite valuable in todays' ever more budget conscious work place. Please note: Personal printing is to be kept to the absolute minimum The monitoring process reports by computer login account name Excessive printing may result in charges Learning updated printing and file saving skills takes only a little time but provides lasting benefits to students, NJC, and the environment.
