Northeastern Junior College

NJC Emergency Notification System

Northeastern Junior College has recently implemented the Connect-ED® service to allow NJC administration and security professionals the ability to reach all students and staff with time-sensitive information during unforeseen events or emergencies using voice, email and text messaging.  During critical situations, NJC officials can use the system to broadcast pertinent information and provide details on appropriate response.

This information will not be shared with other entities and it will be kept private and confidential.   This is used only for NJC communication purposes with you.

Please provide your most current contact information now by filling out the student signup form.  You may also update your contact information with us at any time by completing the form again.

Frequently Asked Questions:

QUESTION: What contact data should I provide to NJC?
ANSWER: The Connect-ED service allows storing of up to six phone numbers, two email addresses and mobile phone number representing your text messaging device. The best emergency contact number is probably your mobile phone.

QUESTION: I heard that my classmate received a voice message from the NJC Emergency Notification System but I did not. Why?
ANSWER: It is possible that we do not have your contact information loaded in the Connect-ED service, or it may be inaccurate.  Please contact the registrar’s office or use the student web portal to verify your information.

QUESTION: I heard that my classmate received a SMS (text) message on the cell phone from the NJC Emergency Notification System but I did not. Why?
ANSWER: To receive text messages, you will need to provide the university with your mobile phone number and carrier information (eg. Verizon, T-Mobile, etc).  Please refer to the student web portal page for further information.

QUESTION: I received the message in my email inbox, but when I clicked the link to play the message nothing happened. Why?
ANSWER: You may not have a default media player like Windows Media Player or Quicktime installed.  Download these players from www.microsoft.com or www.apple.com and install on your computer to listen to messages.

QUESTION: I received the message but I missed the information. What should I do?
ANSWER: While on the call, you can replay the message by pressing the star key (*) at the end of the message.  You may also check your email to locate the link for that message.

QUESTION: I received the message but it kept looping/repeating. Why?
ANSWER: The system does its best to detect whether it has reached a live person or an answering machine. Sometimes loud ambient noises may cause the system to loop.  If this happens, use the mute feature on your phone or move to a quieter location to prevent the message from looping or repeating.

QUESTION: I see a caller ID display of 970-521-6600. Who is this?
ANSWER: When NJC sends a call out using the Connect-ED service, it will always display Caller ID information.  Please save this number on your cell phone as a contact (eg. "NJC EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION") to represent the university/college calling you.

QUESTION: Will I still receive messages from the Emergency Notification System when I leave NJC?
ANSWER: No.  Your account will automatically be removed from the system once you are no longer an active NJC student.

QUESTION:  My phone number has changed since I signed up, can I change it?
ANSWER:  Yes!  Just fill out and submit the signup form again and you information will automatically be updated in our system.

QUESTION:  I changed my mind and want to be removed from the Emergency Notification System, what do I do?
ANSWER:  You can remove yourself from the system by completing the opt-out request form.  You will be removed from the system immediately.
