Monahan Library
Interlibrary Loan Policies
Procedure: NJC Library participates as a lender and a borrower. Available methods for delivery include: courier, fax, U.S. Postage, Commercial Delivery Services.
Requests: Books and journal articles may be requested. All journal article requests must comply with copyright law. Reference and reserve materials do not circulate. Requests may be submitted in person, via online request form, fax - 970-521-6759.
Guidelines: Monahan Library does not process interlibrary loan requests for materials that: have a current year copyright date, are owned by NJC Library but are in use, are genealogical in nature or resources that are used in doing genealogy research, or are owned by Sterling Public Library. Research oriented requests will get priority processing above leisure reading and video requests. All patrons wishing to borrow materials from other libraries must: 1. Complete a separate green interlibrary loan request form for each title being requested. 2. Limit requests to three popular video, audio book, and fiction titles per month per patron. 3. Limit research oriented requests to six per patron at a time. Exceptions may be made for faculty members conducting research.
Processing: Requests will be processed within one workday. Borrowed materials will be processed and patron notified within one workday after material is received.
Fines: ALL patrons, will be assessed a $1.00 per day fine for overdue interlibrary loan (ILL) materials. NJC faculty and staff WILL NOT be exempt from fines for interlibrary loan items.
Renewals: No renewals will be allowed for items borrowed from other libraries. If you request a book or video via interlibrary loan, please make it a priority to use this material by the due date specified.
Reorders: We will NOT reorder the same book/video from another library if you fail to utilize the material within the borrowing period specified by the original lending library.
Difficult to Locate Materials: For community patrons, a $5.00 fee will need to be paid before an interlibrary loan request is forwarded to our referral agent for hard to find materials.
Interlibrary loan is a costly service to provide. Processing interlibrary loan requests not only incurs expensive postage and courier costs, but personnel resources are also expended in terms of staff time for the Monahan Library personnel, as well as that of the lending libraries.
