At Northeastern Junior College, students have an opportunity to gain the basic skills needed for transfer to a four-year institution and for a career in the competitive field of astronomy. Areas that require a basic to advanced knowledge of astronomy include:- Academic - Teaching (all levels)
- Research and Government
Potential employers include universities, government agencies and private research groups. An advanced degree is required for anyone planning a career in astronomy. Astronomy is a competitive field, and NJC gives students the resources needed to succeed. Our students work closely with faculty to advance their undergraduate education. Professors are available to help students acquire the extensive knowledge required for the astronomer-in-training. Courses offer a balanced education in the social and behavioral sciences
and the arts and humanities.
Why Choose Northeastern?
First and foremost, Northeastern is located in a rural area with very dark skies! Unlike students at urban colleges and universities, Northeastern students can actually look up and see even faint objects like our own galaxy, the Milky Way. At NJC, students have the opportunity to use a range of instruments, from simple refractors to the latest GO TO technology telescopes. The professors at NJC work with students to maximize learning potential both in and outside of small-sized classes.
