What is "Accuplacer"? What are CPT's?

A CPT is a computerized placement test. These basic skills assessments are required of all students who intend to complete any degree-seeking program at NJC.

The CPT that NJC uses is the Accuplacer test. Accuplacer is a nationally recognized placement test used to measure your skills in Reading, English and Math. Your test results will tell you whether you may enroll in College level courses, such as English Composition I or College Algebra, or whether you need to complete one or two semesters of preparatory coursework to develop additional skills before enrolling in the College level courses.

This web-page will provide you with information about the courses in which you are required to enroll based upon your Accuplacer test results.

Some programs may allow placement into certain math courses that are not listed here. Be sure to see your advisor for additional information. If you have questions about your test results or your course placement, please talk to your advisor or see one of the NJC counselors. You may call (970) 521-6656 or e-mail andrea.schumacher@njc.edu to schedule a time to take the Accuplacer.
