STERLING -- Two Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen are getting the chance to play volleyball a couple of more years as well as the chance to finish their college degrees.

For one, its a chance to continue an outstanding college career. For the other, its a second chance after being sidelined with an injury for the past two seasons.

Brunna Kronbauer from Porto Alegre, Brazil, has signed on to play with St. John’s University in New York City. Kronbauer will be a business major in her time there. Kronbauer finishes her time at NJC with two All-Region honors and a selection

for second team All-American. She is very excited about the opportunity to keep playing volleyball as well as the school that signed her.

“I love big cities and it has a very good program,” she said of her decision to pick St. John’s. “It was a nice school and the coach seemed very nice.”

Abigail Pollart from Powell, Wyo., has signed on to play at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Okla., where she will major in counseling and psychology. Pollart has gotten little chance to show her stuff at NJC, suffering a devastating knee injury early in her career there. Pollart is greateful for another shot to do what she loves.

“I am excited that I am getting another chance to play. Its a good school with a small campus. Its in a big city with Oklahoma City close by so there will be plenty to do,” she commented. As for the knee.
“Its coming along slowly. I still won’t be ready to play until about June, but when I can, it will be nice to be back at 100-percent.”

Under the guidance of former head coach turned athletic director Marci Henry and assistant coach turned head coach Amber Wiedeman, the two players have flourished not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. Academics is a big part of the equation when you are a Plainswoman and the two players have done their best to uphold that legacy.

“I am very excited for both of them. I know that they will do very well, both academically and on the volleyball court,” commented Wiedeman. “They are great students. They have both shown a lot of leadership in their time here. Especially Brunna, getting selected as an All American. Abby didn’t get much of a chance to play for us while she was here, but I know she’ll do very well.”
