About Sterling, Colorado
Northeastern Junior College is located in Sterling, Colorado, a city of nearly 15,000 residents located just 125 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado.
As the largest city in this part of the state, Sterling serves as the primary location for retail trade, transportation, government, medical care, recreation and education.
Sterling is home to the North Sterling Reservoir State Park, a large facility that draws visitors from all over the region on a regular basis. To the west of Sterling lie the Pawnee National Grasslands--miles and miles of peaceful prairie dotted with beautiful wild flowers and animals plus some occasional bluffs that rise into the air like sleeping giants. More than 80,000 visitors a year come to this area to tour the grasslands.
A number of other amenities and facilities provide great resources to this area and draw large crowds to town. Northeastern Junior College is a primary gathering place, especially at the Bank of Colorado Event Center located on campus.
From the city's beautiful bronzed tree sculptures and its award-winning museum, to its exceptional golf courses (yes, there are two) and area lakes, it is here that you can and will really enjoy rural Colorado and the High Plains. We're not in the mountains. You can't even see them from here! We are the other kind of Colorado. Just as beautiful! Just as colorful! You'll love our uninterrupted sunsets and when the sun peeps over the horizon each morning, greeting Colorado's eastern edge at dawn, it simply takes your breath away. Our skies are bigger and more blue. Our grass grows bigger and better. You won't find this kind of scenery anywhere that skyscrapers sit. Visit us. We'll show you around. Sterling is truly a jewel in Colorado's crown!
