Dr. Lance Bolton came to NJC in July of 2006 as NJC’s sixth president.

Dr. Bolton holds both a Ph.D. and a Master’s of Science Degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Georgia.  He earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting from this same institution.

Most recently he was the Global Director of Research and Development at DuPont Qualicon where he worked for nine years.  He started out at DuPont working in support and sales, but eventually was appointed to manage the North American division.  He was in charge of the identification and development of new technologies designed to bring value to food industry customers and at the same time, maintain DuPont’s leadership position in food technology.

Before joining DuPont Qualicon, Bolton served as a post-doctoral research associate for the United States Department of Agriculture and a post-doctoral research associate for the University of Georgia School for Veterinary Medicine.  In both these positions he was responsible for developing methods for rapid detection of food contamination.

Dr. Bolton spent much of his childhood on the campus of a community college in Georgia where his father served for many years as the head of the math department.  He recalls what a wonderful way it was to grow up in that kind of environment.

Dr. Bolton and his wife Lorrie have two children.

Dr. Bolton’s top priority at NJC is to increase enrollment.  He has included himself as part of a newly developed recruitment team that brings together the Admissions and Marketing departments on campus.

Hope for Northeastern LogoDr. Bolton recently announced a program called Hope for Northeastern Colorado.   This program is an endowment supported scholarship program that will serve as the primary focus of the upcoming Northeastern Junior College Foundation’s Capital Campaign.  The Foundation will work to raise the endowment necessary to provide free tuition to any student in NJC’s five-county service area who follows a college preparatory curriculum and graduates from high school with a B average or better.  The scholarship will be renewable each semester for up to four semesters, as long as the student maintains his or her B average while enrolled at NJC
