Why do I see classes that I am not taking online?

Regular classroom classes. Many instructors are starting to use Blackboard to post handouts or communicate with their regular classroom students in between classes. Ask your instructor how Blackboard will be used in your course.

I can get into my online class but why isn't it working?

Are you experiencing problems such as buttons not appearing,  files not attaching to messages, frequent error messages, links not working, etc.? This is caused by browser incompatibility. There are browsers that work better than others, and even approved browsers may require some special settings. Go to the Browser Tune-Upat Blackboard for more information.  NJC currently uses Blackboard Vista 4.0.

If your instructor has uploaded audio clips, video clips, or other media that you cannot open, you may need to download a Plug-ins can be downloaded from the bottom of the Browser Tune-Upweb site.

I click on a link to an email message or discussion board posting and nothing happens and I click on "begin quiz" and nothing happens.  Why?

Both of these problems are usually caused by a pop-up ad blocker installed on your computer. Pop-up ad blockers keep annoying advertisements from popping up on your screen, but they also keep your Blackboard email, discussions, and quizzes from popping up.  The most common pop-up ad blocker is part of Norton Internet Security. The only way for Blackboard to work correctly is to disable pop-up blockers.  You can see screen shots of how to do this by clicking this link:  Disable Pop-Up Blockers.  If you can't see the PDF file in the link, you can follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security.  A screen with several menu options will appear.
  2. Click on the words "Ad Blocking" in the User Accounts section.
  3. Select "Configure" from the lower left
  4. On the next page, uncheck the box next to "Turn On Pop-up Window Blocking" and click "OK"

If you follow these steps and are still having problems, please contact  Online Learningfor assistance. If you get a recording, leave your name, phone number, the course information (prefix, number and section), and a brief description of the problem.
