On display through Feb. 14

Jan. 25, 2019, Sterling, Colo. – The Peter L. Youngers Fine Arts Gallery in E.S. French Hall at Northeastern Junior College is pleased to present “Sphere Project: A Collaboration on a Grand Scale” by Frol Boundin and Mary Robinson in collaboration with Tim Van Ginkel, William Howard, Kristin Calhoun, Margo Meyers and Aaron Ishaeik. “Sphere Project: A Collaboration on a Grand Scale” will run from Jan. 21 through Feb. 14, 2019.

Frol moved to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia in 1990. He received artistic training in traditions of social realism from his grandfather, painter Victor Boundin, as well as the Leningrad School of General Arts. Frol received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art Institute of Chicago. During his time in Chicago he focused on large-scale abstract paintings and prints, as well as collaborative installations and graphic design projects with local arts community organizations. He taught printmaking at the University of South Carolina and now owns “Rosewood Press” in southern California, specializing in intaglio and monotype printmaking, as well as digital photography and book arts.

Mary is an Associate Professor of Art and Head of Printmaking at the University of South Carolina. She received a Master’s degree in Art History form the University of Wisconsin, Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from the Indian University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art from the University of Colorado. Mary works primarily in printmaking and drawing, finding inspiration from nature. She has attended residencies at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, Belgium; the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vt.; Hambridge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences in Rabun Gap, Ga.; and Mustarinda Art and Nature Centre in Hyrynsalmi, Finland.

In the spring of 2014, Frol was approached by Professor Beauvais Lyons from the University of Tennessee to submit a proposal to conduct a demonstration at the 2015 Southern Graphics Council International at the University of Tennessee with the American French Tool press housed on the campus. As he prepared his proposal he realized that in order to address the sphere theme of the conference, he would need a collaborative effort. He needed a team of printmakers representing the breadth and knowledge found in the print community.

”Sphere Project: A Collaboration on a Grand Scale” will run through Feb. 14, 2019. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information contact
