Sterling, Colo. – Northeastern Junior College along with the Colorado Community College System, the City of Sterling, Sterling Regional Med Center and the Logan County Chamber of Commerce have pledged to support advancement in diversity and inclusion within the workplace by working collectively across organizations and sectors and by signing the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion Pledge.

The pledge is centered on three main commitments: create a safe environment where people can understand culture and everyone can evolve, implement and expand unconscious bias education, and be authentic and transparent on success and failures throughout the process. The three areas ensure that the culture and environment of institutions and organizations are environments where diversity, equity and inclusion can be celebrated and learned from at all times.

“We do need to recognize that people are different; they have different perspectives. We need to respect all of those perspectives and we need to honor those perspectives. We need to welcome those perspectives and we need to learn about those perspectives,” said CCCS Chancellor Joe Garcia.

Northeastern strives to offer students opportunities to become well-rounded individuals; to embrace diversity; to develop relationships and partnerships that will enhance cultural, educational and social experiences for both students and citizens.

Northeastern and CCCS are working to better understand the achievement gap (the difference between the success ratios of majority populations and marginalized populations) with open and honest conversations campus-wide and are taking steps to apply resources to close the equity gap.
