Sterling, Colo. – Northeastern Junior College is pleased to announce Amanda Platt and Stephanie Bushnell were selected as the recipients of the Rising Star Award by the Colorado Community College System and the State Student Advisory Council.

Amanda Platte is from Longmont, Colo., currently working on an Associate of Arts with a degree of designation in Early Childhood Education. She plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado in the fall. Amanda has left her mark at Northeastern through her service as a resident assistant, work study in the Residence Life office, Northeastern Ambassador, Secretary of Zeta Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and substitute teacher at a local preschool. Through these various positions, she has grown into a remarkable student leader.

Stephanie Bushnell is from Fort Lupton, Colo., currently working on an Associates of Science with a degree of designation in Animal Science and Agricultural Education. She plans to attend West Texas A&M in the fall. Stephanie is one of the most involved student leaders at Northeastern: She serves as the Aggies Club President, Farm Bureau member, Northeastern Ambassador, Resident Assistant and work study in the agriculture department. Her resume speaks volumes, as Stephanie has been a standout leader since her freshman year.

The Rising Star Award is bestowed upon community college students who exhibit a high level of leadership and involvement in student activities, along with maintaining a 3.0 grade point average. Amanda and Stephanie have shown initiative both inside and outside of the classroom to make Northeastern a more positive and inviting campus.

Northeastern offers four-year degree programs through participating four-year colleges.
