Scholarships awarded for students who are continuing their education

May 18, 2018, Sterling, Colo., - A number of 2018 graduates of Northeastern Junior College have received scholarships and academic awards to help pay for their education as they move on to the next level of their education journey. During the recent commencement exercises held on campus, more than 30 awards were announced.

Receiving the Charles F. Poole Award – a commencement award given to graduates who are scholastic class leaders, have attended Northeastern continuously and contributed to campus activities – were Abbey Brower of Sterling, Colo., Associate of Arts; Ashley Colchin of Sterling, Colo., Associates of Arts with a Business and Account degree of designation; and Bailee Jones of Sterling, Colo., Associates of Arts with a Psychology degree of designation.   

Receiving the Armilda W. Dowis Award – a commencement award given to outstanding graduates in an occupational program – were Shawnah Royston of Parker, Colo., Associate of Applied Science with a Nursing degree of designation; and Alisha Grauberger of Sterling, Colo., Associate of Applied Science with a Business and Accounting degree of designation.

The $1,500 Elsie Minnie Good Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to Logan County residents recognizing the academic standing and accomplishments of talented students from all major divisions of the college, went to Abbey Brower of Sterling, Colo., who plans to transfer to Colorado State University.

The Thomas L. Porter Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a graduate from the five-county region of Northeast Colorado (Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Yuma or Washington) who is transferring to Colorado State University, went to Jody Ishibashi of Sterling, Colo.

The Keith Propst Memorial Agriculture Scholarship – awarded to an agriculture education graduate, who maintained a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and who demonstrated leadership, integrity, and community involvement transferring to Colorado State University – went to Kelli Carlson of Keenesburg, Colo.

The Johnson and Associates, CPAs, P.C. Accounting Scholarship, is awarded to a full-time business graduate from the five-county region of Northeast Colorado who maintains a 3.0 GPA and is transferring to a four-year college or university in Colorado to complete a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. This award went to Naomi Capulong of Sterling, Colo., who plans to transfer to the University of Northern Colorado.
