October 17, 2017 Sterling, CO – The Peter L. Youngers Fine Arts Gallery in ES French Hall at Northeastern Junior College is pleased to present a collection of photographs by Lea WiseSurguy-Sophiliazo from around the world “Minute Meditations” will run from October 16, 2017-November 9, 2017.

The mind relaxes, the eyes search – and the cracks in the sidewalk, the parking post with its remains of past cars, the wall an inch from your nose – all can become places of beauty.

In a practice similar to Wabi-Sabi (a Japanese discipline of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting that reality peacefully), Lea WiseSurguy-Sophiliazo documents textures from everyday objects – peeling paint, worn walls, rusting cars – and using photographs like short meditations to see little beauties in the everyday and the mundane. The images are un-manipulated to reflect nothing but reality, yet are heavily cropped to focus attention and serve as a reminder that our perspectives deeply influence how we see the world.

Collected from around the world, the images span more than eight years of photography.

“Minute Meditations” will run through November 9, 2017. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 to 5 pm. For additional information, please contact William Ross at william.ross@njc.edu.
