The NJC Rodeo Team returned home from the 1st tour stop of the fall season on September 17th.  The Chadron State College Rodeo was a successful trip for several of the team members.  Leading the charge was sophomore Animal Science major, Nicole Sederstrom from Goodland, Kansas.  Nicole won the 1st round of the breakaway roping, 3rd in the championship round, and 2nd in the average.

On the men’s side, it was sophomore Ty Spickelmier, an agri-business major, from Scottsbluff, Nebraska bringing home the Championship in the tie-down calf roping.  Turning in the fastest time of the rodeo in the short round, Ty won the event by over 6 seconds with his dominate performance.
It is great to have these sophomore leaders for our talented group of freshman.

The NJC rodeo team also had a great weekend at the Antelope Stampede hosted by Lamar Community College on October 1st.  The NJC team won both of the team’s signature roping events and heads into the final 2 competitions of the seasons with a lot of momentum.

On the women’s side it was Nicole Sederstrom, an Animal Science major, from Goodland, Kansas bringing home the buckle in the breakaway roping.  With runs of 3.0 and 3.5 seconds, Nicole bested the field by 3 tenths of a second and now leads the regional standing in the breakaway.  Teammate and 2016 CNFR qualifier, Brandy Schaack, an education major, from Hyannis, Nebraska got on the board at Lamar with two great runs in the barrel racing.

On the men’s side, it was freshman, Ty Millisant, an agri-business major from Dunning, Nebraska bringing home the buckle in the tie-down roping.  Ty, roped and tied 2 calves in 19.6 seconds including a blistering 8.8 second run in the championship round.  Teammate and fellow Nebraskan Cody Darnell, a Business major, also placed in the 1st round of the tie-down.  NJC tie-down ropers have dominated this fall winning 2 of 3 college rodeos this season.
