The fourth annual NJC Athletic Banquet was held Monday, May 12, 2014 in the Bank of Colorado Event Center. Athletes from volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer, golf, softball and baseball were all recognized at the event. Current sophomore student-athletes were all honored by their individual coaches before graduation and their next steps.

Two special awards were presented at this year’s banquet: The Darold Propp Memorial Student Athlete Award and the Jake Clifton Memorial Scholarship. The 2014 recipient of the Darold Propp Memorial Student Athlete Award was NJC Men’s Basketball sophomore Joe Dellenbach. NJC athletic director Marci Henry and Propp’s brother, Larry Propp, presented Dellenbach with the award. The annual award was established to honor the student-athlete that most exemplifies the love of the game and honors NJC athletics through positive attitude, work ethic and leadership.

The Jake Clifton Memorial Scholarship was awarded to freshman third basemen Liam Wilson. On hand to help head coach Bryan Shepherd were Jake’s parents, Vance and Karen Clifton. Clifton was set to attend NJC on a baseball scholarship, but unfortunately passed away in a swimming accident two weeks before the start of his freshman year at NJC. The award is presented to a returning sophomore baseball player who exemplifies hard work, character and toughness on and off the field. Wilson was awarded a $2,000 scholarship for next fall.
