Sterling High School students Skylar Brungardt and Jerrod Thompson, both enrolled this school year in the Secondary Automotive Technology program at Northeastern Junior College, recently competed in the District Skills USA Contest . Brungardt placed second and Thompson placed third at the district level, which allowed them to compete in the Colorado-wide competition. Out of 35 students in the state, Brungardt placed 14th and Thompson placed 23rd. The students competed in a variety of activities where they actually had to troubleshoot problem areas on the vehicle and do it against time. There is also a written test administered. Northeastern Junior College was the host site for the district competition this year. Students came from several programs located in this vicinity of Colorado to compete. State competition was held in the metro area.
Thompson was subsequently selected as the Northeastern Junior College’s Secondary Auto Tech/ Skills USA Student of the Year for 2014. (Courtesy Photo)
