Jordan Procyshen of the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) baseball team has been named NJCAA Division I First Team All-American for the 2013 season.

The catcher from Guelph, ON Canada is the first-ever member of the NJC baseball program to achieve First Team All-American status.

During the 2013 season Procyshen hit 15 home runs, which tied him for first place in the nation with freshman teammate J.J. Bissell. His .418 batting average was 21st in the nation and he was tied for 10th in the nation in RBI’s with 65.

Procyshen was also named All-Region and All-District for the 2013 spring season.

“Jordan being named First Team All-American is huge for our program,” said NJC Coach Bryan Shepherd. “That puts him as one of the top 10 players in the nation for Division I junior colleges.

“We have a history of some very good players here, and he is the first to be selected First Team All-American so you can see how hard it is to achieve that. We couldn’t be more proud of him for this accomplishment, especially when you have to become All-Region and All-District to earn All-American honors.

“We play in one of the toughest districts in the nation and this is not easy to accomplish.”

Procyshen will attend Northern Kentucky University, a Division I school, next season. He helped NJC to a 40-21 mark, the Empire Conference crown and the Region IX Tourney title for the second time in the program’s history. For the first time ever NJC hosted the Western District Tournament before bowing out with an 0-2 mark.

In two seasons Procyshen was part of NJC teams that posted back-to-back 40-plus wins while posting an 84-37 mark.
