Boys and Girls Basketball on Campus

Boys basketball

The Northeastern Junior College men’s basketball team will be hosting a series of youth basketball camps in June.  These camps are designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball needed to compete at all levels.

“We are excited to offer youth basketball camps to the Sterling community,” explains Coach Eddie Trenkle.  “This is one our most refreshing times of the year for myself and my staff; seeing the innocence of the game and the growth of each child who comes to camp over the years.  During my short time here our program has developed great relationships with many up and coming basketball stars who could potentially be the next great NJC player.  This year a majority of our players will be on campus and assisting with camps, we are really excited to have our student athletes accessible to the young campers.”

The two camps will be offered during the week of June 10, 2013 and will conclude June 13, 2013.  The first camp is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM and run until 11:30 AM and is offered to campers who are Pre K thru 3rd grade.  The second camp is scheduled for the same days and will start at 1:00 PM and run until 3:30 PM and is offered to campers in grades 4th thru 8th.  Both camps will be held at the Bank of Colorado Event Center on the campus of Northeastern Junior College.

The cost of each camp is $45 per camper; this will include four days of instruction, a basketball and a t-shirt that each camper will receive at the conclusion of their respective camps.

Campers can preregister by contacting Steve Soza at 970 521 6769 or steve.soza@njc.edu.  Sign up forms can also be found on the NJC website. Girls basketball

Some of the highlights of the summer for many children in this area are attending the Kids College classes and the basketball camps offered by Northeastern Junior College. This year is no exception when it comes to the young, female players. The college’s women’s basketball program will combine efforts with the Sterling High School girl’s program to once again offer a Fundamental Day Camp and a Little Lady Hoopers camp.

The fundamental camp is designed to help young women hone their basketball skills while establishing lasting friendships and gaining confidence on the basketball court. This camp is for players who will be in the 4th-9th grades next year who are looking for the fun and a more intense basketball experience.  The camp’s emphasis will be on skill development through drills, games, competitions and other activities. It will take place June 10-13 from 9 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Bank of Colorado Event Center on campus. Cost of this came is $45 per camper and includes a t-shirt, camp awards and they get to take home a basketball. The camp fee is $45 per camper and it includes a camp t-shirt, basketball and camp awards.

The Little Lady Hoopers Camp is designed for girls ages four through the going into the third grade next year. They will have a blast learning about, and playing the game of basketball. This camp will also be June 10-13 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and it, too, will be held at the Bank of Colorado Event Center. Each camper will receive a t-shirt as well as fun with friends and great coaches, and a basketball.

Players may register at the door beginning one hour before the start of their camp.  They may also run by the Bank of Colorado Event Center and get a copy of the registration form in advance to make sign up go smoother when they get here that morning.
