Emergency Notifications

Northeastern Junior College will immediately issue an Emergency Notification to the campus community upon the confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or staff on campus. Warnings may only be withheld if they would compromise efforts to contain the emergency.

Timely Warnings

Timely Warnings are issued for crimes to persons or property including arson, burglary, aggravated assault, criminal homicide, motor vehicle theft, robbery and sex offenses. Timely Warnings also may be issued for other crimes as deemed necessary. Upon receipt of all relevant information, such warnings will, as circumstances warrant, be issued in a manner to best protect the campus community.

April 20:

During the last week of February, several vehicles were burglarized while parked in the lots of the NJC property. Some cars were reportedly locked; others were not locked. Collectively, several items of value were stolen from the burglarized vehicles. Recently, cameras have been installed on all exterior buildings of the NJC Main Campus. Some of the camera footage shows the burglaries in progress. NJC has shared this footage with local law enforcement and they are investigating the burglaries and the thefts. Police have asked that I send this notice to all faculty, staff, and students to remind you all: always lock all vehicle doors. If possible, do not keep valuable items in your vehicle. Any item that may be appealing to a potential burglar or thief should be kept out of sight (i.e., under seat, in the trunk, or in a locked box/tool box).

If your vehicle has been burglarized, please complete a Maxient report http://www.njc.edu/Student-Life/Incident-Report
and report the incident to the police.

October 19:

During the evening of Thursday, October 18, 2018 several NJC students on the NJC campus were followed by a Red Jeep Commander with Kansas license plates. The occupants were observed taking pictures of female students and attempting to lure them to the vehicle.

Sterling police located the vehicle and the occupants a short time later. The occupants were given a trespass warning not to come onto NJC property. The occupants are described as follows:

1 Alaskan American male; 23 years of age; 5’ 8” 180 lbs., brown hair
1 White male; 20 years of age; 6’ 140 lbs., brown hair.

If these people or the vehicle are seen on NJC’s property, please contact the Sterling Police Department and notify campus authorities.
